As I mentioned in my previous post, it was never intended for me to race this
years Amstel Gold Race. I choose not to have it in my race schedule due to the
length and nervousness of the race, two characteristics which don't really suit
me. I know this as I raced here in 2009. Anyway, I was called in as first reserve,
expected to do my best and to help out our two leaders for this race. We had a
good team here, but at the end of the day we weren't able to deliver any results.
I personally felt ok until about 225km, when there were 35km remaining, I
started dropping back in the bunch until I eventually was dropped. Today we
went for an easy spin in the great weather this area is offering at the moment.
Tomorrow will again be a relaxed day, and then Wednesday it's time for Fleche
Wallonne.
Nice and easy after a long and stressful race
